FAQs

Is Art Therapy for me?

Art Therapy is a very versatile medium and is for anyone who is drawn to colours or art and the idea of using these as a medium to explore the self. It can be used purely for artistic exploration or self development and even for therapeutic purposes.

Do I need to know how to draw or paint?

There is no need to have any experience with drawing or painting. The less you know the more free you are to experience and explore the medium without any preconceived notions.

I’m already doing verbal therapy? How will this help me?

There is no conflict between verbal and art therapy, in fact one can complement the other. What you cannot quite put into words can sometimes be accessed through the process and experience of creating images.

Can I do a one on one session?

Contrary to verbal therapy which works in the one on one setting, for Art Therapy the presence of the group is equally important. However, as the work is individual your experience and privacy is protected. You can choose how much you want to engage or share and there is no compulsion to talk. The group can reflect and be a container even without any words being exchanged.

How does it work? You just sit and paint?

In a word yes. The therapist guides you as much as you require but for a large part its you, the paper and the colours who do the talking. No judgement and no right or wrong. In Art Therapy there is no perfect form or outcome you are looking for rather the process and the presence through it is what is important.

Can I try it first?

Yes most of the therapists will let you have a trial class too if you want to take it up.

What kind of commitment are we talking about?

One session is 2 hours – we recommend a minimum or once a week and ideally twice a week depending on your schedule and requirements.

Has it helped people? How?

Our therapists work with people who have depression, anxiety, cannot seem to find a balance, seeking relief from stress and a creative outlet. We do not ask for or share testimonials in order to respect the privacy of our clients.
